About Yael Schlenger, LCSW
Yael’s approach to therapy is to address the problematic patterns that exist between people through empathic curiosity and nonjudgmental listening. Yael works to establish a safe and warm therapeutic environment in which safety, vulnerability and growth can thrive.
Yael graduated from the NYU Silver School of Social Work and is a licensed clinical social worker in the state of NY. Yael completed postgraduate training and is a certified couple and family therapist through the Ackerman Institute for the Family. She completed postgraduate training in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT) as well as in Interpersonal Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the William Alanson White Institute.
Yael has experience working with diverse populations across a wide range of treatment settings. Her particular interests include family and couple therapy: family conflict, life-cycle transitions, relationship issues, premarital counseling and sex-positive education, and her areas of study include how adolescent messages of shame in sexuality affect young women’s experiences of themselves and their sexual partners in adulthood.
